FUTURE LEGENDS BASKETBALL

Future Legends Basketball is a youth basketball program in Youngstown, Ohio, founded three years ago by coach Kenneth Madison. The program offers AAU tournament play, skills training, and youth leagues for talented players in grades 3 through 9. Its goal is to help athletes reach the next level, whether that means earning a full college scholarship or building a professional career, while setting the standard for youth basketball in Youngstown and beyond.

The Challenge
The original logo had run its course. Future Legends needed an elevated identity with a bold, clean aesthetic that would bring consistency across every touchpoint and spark the same energy families feel on game day. That raised the central question: how do you stand out in a crowded market where coaches replicate each other's programs, and still look original?

The Approach
During research and positioning, I found that most basketball brands lean on the ball itself to tell their story. The name "Future Legends" brought its own challenge, since it called for imagery that could capture the idea of a legend still in the making. Rather than defaulting to a basketball, we explored combination marks, monograms, and simple, bold typography and symbols. These directions shaped the stylescapes, and the client approved them as the foundation for the new identity.

The new logo features a bold monogram combining the letters F and L, positioned diagonally to evoke a sense of forward movement, akin to an upward-pointing arrow symbolizing progress and advancement. Its minimalistic and simplistic design aligns with the client's vision, complemented by the Futura PT font. This clean and contemporary sans-serif typeface conveys stability, forward-thinking, and a professional aesthetic to the brand.
